Good for Ron Unz, former American Conservative publisher, for being in favor of raising the minimum wage. His thesis is the obvious one: Raising the minimum wage would raise incomes among the poor above what they could receive in benefits. Then they don't have to be on any welfare programs.
Duh.
I also heard Bill O'Reilly is for raising the minimum wage. Didn't see that coming.
I don't know what the Republican establishment -- coupled with the deleterious influence of the tea partiers -- will allow during an election year. Odds are they'd stop any passage of a raise, since the Democrats and Barack Obama would likely be given credit for it. Perhaps if a Republican would be able to put forward the bill without a Democratic co-sponsor, they'd be reassured enough to assume they'd get credit. It will be interesting to see what happens. Probably nothing is my guess because they just hate the poor.
