Sunday Morning Coming Down

Read these two articles back-to-back. First, a good Alternet compendium of Republican attempts to look compassionate toward the poor. It's hilarious in its perverse sort of way. Then read Paul Krugman's post on the implications of the Republican view that the poor deserve their fate, just as the mega-rich deserve theirs. Ugly, but true, stuff.

Notice how I wisely don't offer a link to Ross Douthat's column this morning in the New York Times. That's because not raising the minimum wage but instead offering corporation federal subsidies to pay their employees more might be conservative, but it definitely isn't reform. Trust me on this one.

"Government subsidies to corporations instead of raising
the minimum wage? Brilliant, Mortimer, simply brilliant!"
