Mitt Romney: Groundhog Day

Rahm Emmanuel said yesterday on Meet the Press that Mitt Romney has "basically laid out the policy for Groundhog Day, which is we’re going to go back to the very things that led to a recession."

And so the idea that Mitt Romney will be Bush 2.0 gets laid out for the first time. I sure hope this is the campaign Barack Obama intends to run because it's exactly right. Romney is more of the same: tax cuts, higher deficits, attempts to privatize and thus eviscerate entitlements, and more foreign entanglements in Iran and possibly Syria, costing how much money in expanded costs? Go ahead, Romney repeal Obamacare with its $716 billion in savings that extend the life of Medicare. Go back to Bush's drug donut hole for seniors.

Mitt Romney has no new policy prescriptions that differentiate him from George W. Bush. And what's worse is that it's he who has relaunched Ronald Reagan's "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" Mitt, you might not want to go there if four years ago Bush was delivering us to the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. What do you want, losing 800,000 jobs a month, as we were doing when Obama took over or 100,000+ jobs gained per month, as we're doing now under Obama?

The choice between the Bush era, which Romney now mimics, or the Obama era, which has a ways to go to get us out of the woods that Bush thrust us into, is pretty stark. Rational people will choose to go with Obama, not Romney/Bush.
